The Healing Power of Natural Sensitive Skincare: A Personal Journey

My oldest daughter, Mikayla, has struggled with sensitive skin issues since about age 12. Her sensitive skin manifests as almost like a cradle cap on her scalp and dry, flaky red, raised, peeling patches on her face. She has described it as a peeling sunburn near her eyebrows at its worst occurrences. She has stated it would peel off in layers around her eyebrows. It is very itchy, and she was uncomfortable with the visible marks on her face, making her reluctant to leave the house.

Being a young person, many of us want to fit in more than stand out, at least not for something that makes us stand out in a bad way, such as bad skin, awkwardness, etc. So having a skincare issue prevalent on your face is not ideal.

Mikayla has combination skin, which we've discovered in our journey to treat the sensitivity. We would combat the dryness, but then her skin would become increasingly oily and acne breakouts would occur. It just seems you can't win for trying.

This photo of Mikayla shows some slight redness above her eyebrows and below her eye. This was a great day; unfortunately, we do not have photos of the really bad days, as she didn't want pictures taken.

We tried a few over-the-counter products and one we had to order through a representative. Many were expensive; some would treat the dryness, but the sensitivity would react in redness around her eyes, forehead, and cheeks. Some were just plain greasy and never felt like they were absorbed properly into her skin; this just caused more redness with acne breakouts. One product did seem to work; however, it was numerous steps and quite expensive. Being a single parent to four children in a one-income home, cost is a factor.

She finally asked me to try to make something for her. I told her she would have to give it a little bit of time; it isn't instant, so just like the really expensive skincare treatment, a month for your skin to adjust is probably a fair timeframe. She agreed.

She was in utter disbelief when I told her we were going to wash her face with a blend of coconut oil and honey; how could this not make her skin more oily? We were literally using oil to wash her face, but she gave in.

We used Fresh Start Duo to wash her face in the morning every day and followed up with Calm Complexion for her moisturizer, and she started seeing results pretty quickly, actually. In a couple of weeks, the patchy spots were gone, the slight redness that was left had minimized, and there have been no breakouts with the sunburn-like reaction since.

She is diligent about not missing her daily routine, as she has no desire to go back to how her skin had been back then, but she now has a manageable and cost-effective solution.

This picture is from a week ago; her skin has been clear for a few years now, and, provided she keeps up her routine, it stays that way.

This is just one more example of how going natural has worked for our family. Results can always vary, but if natural is something you are interested in, we just might have something in our product line that could become your new routine. We are always creating new products and solutions as the need arises, so if you don't see it on our website, feel free to reach out; we may be working on it already, or we could try to come up with something for you.
